Is It Lived Out?

"Be careful... those of us who concern ourselves with theology. The young men who think theology is extremely important... and they are right... but be very, very careful. With all your learning... what is your opinion of Jesus... and is that opinion lived out? Is it lived out?"

Missed Air France Flight, Only to Die in Car Crash

A woman who dodged death when she and her husband narrowly missed Air France Flight 447 before it plunged into the Atlantic Ocean, killing all 228 aboard, was killed in a car accident just over a week later.
Johanna Ganthaler a retiree from the Bolzano-Bozen province, was on vacation in Brazil with her husband Kurt when the pair miraculously missed the doomed flight to Paris. But their luck ran out on an Austrian road earlier this week when their car swerved into the path of an oncoming truck outside the town of Kufstein, the Times (U.K.) reported.
Kurt Ganthaler was badly hurt in the accident.
Flight 447 disappeared from radar shortly after leaving Rio de Janeiro and is believed to have broken apart shortly after it left the airport in Brazil on May 31 with 228 people on board.
Some three dozen bodies have been fished out of the ocean where the Airbus jet plunged into the water. A nuclear-powered French submarine has begun scouring the seafloor for any sign of the black box, which could hold the key to determining what felled the plane.
The Ganthalers flew out of the country on a flight the day after the jet went missing.

Was John Seeker-Friendly?

God gave him a message, and so he went around delivering it. “The word of God came to John”—we call him John the Baptist—and “he went into all the region around the Jordan [River], proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins” (Luke 3:2-3).

It seems John became popular pretty fast, but he wasn’t doing seeker-friendly.

He said...to the crowds that came out to be baptized by him, "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bear fruits in keeping with repentance." (Luke 3:7-8)

What did John do with his newfound platform? Two things:

He called for repentance (vv. 3, 7).
He pointed to Jesus—“He who is mightier than I is coming, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie” (Luke 3:16).
Calling for repentance and pointing to Jesus—a good model for what do with any platform.

Amazing Grace 2: The Foundations of Reformed Theology will take you on a journey into the very heart of the Reformation, the greatest spiritual awakening since the days of the Apostles. During the next few hours you will come to experience the heart and mind of the great Reformers: Martin Luther, John Calvin, John Knox, Ulrich Zwingli, William Farel, Theodore Beza and others. You will witness how they risked their lives to reassert the foundational principles of true biblical Christianity as they stood against the tyranny of Rome.

Discover why the Reformers insisted on:

• Sola Scriptura (the Scripture alone is our absolute standard)
• Soli Deo Gloria (God’s glory alone is salvation’s ultimate goal)
• Solo Christo (Christ’s work alone saves sinners)
• Sola Gratia (God’s grace alone brings salvation)
• Sola Fide (faith alone is the instrument of salvation)

Learn how the modern church has surrendered much of the blood-bought treasures of the Reformation through:

• emotional experientialism
• intellectual superficiality
• cultural adaptation
• ecclesiastical idolatry
• and other tragic failures

Sense the enormous tragedy in Protestantism’s forfeiting her blessed heritage for a mess of pottage. And it is doing this even without the pressure of Rome’s universal dominance and the tyrannical exercise of the Inquisition. What is worse, the contemporary church has not only surrendered her blood-bought treasures, but has put herself back on the road to Rome. Men and brethren, what shall we do? Come and learn how we can escape the slippery slope to Rome as we re-engage the pilgrim’s progress from this world to that which is to come.

Product of the Modern Gospel

Election & Evangelism - C. H. Spurgeon

A controversialist once said, “If I thought God had a chosen people, I should not preach.” That is the very reason why I do preach. What would make him inactive is the mainspring of my earnestness. If the Lord had not a people to be saved, I should have little to cheer me in the ministry.

I believe that God will save his own elect, and I also believe that, if I do not preach the gospel, the blood of men will be laid at my door.

Our Saviour has bidden us to preach the gospel to every creature; he has not said, “Preach it only to the elect;” and though that might seem to be the most logical thing for us to do, yet, since he has not been pleased to stamp the elect in their foreheads, or to put any distinctive mark upon them, it would be an impossible task for us to perform; whereas, when we preach the gospel to every creature, the gospel makes its own division, and Christ’s sheep hear his voice, and follow him.

"You would do better looking straight into the midday Sun or beholding lightning from only a few feet away, than gazing upon God's holiness."

Hope When Praying For A Lost Family Member

John Newton to William Cowper, February 22, 1770

"I am willing to hope that you will be made a messenger of light and peace to his soul. The Lord's hand is not shortened that he cannot save. He can do great things in a small time, as you know from your own experience. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, he can command light to shine out of darkness. If he speaks, it is done... One glimpse of the worth of the soul, the evil of sin, and the importance of eternity, will effect that which hath been in vain attempted by repeated arguments."

[Cowper's brother, John, converted on his deathbed a few days later]

Mission Accomplished - Shai Linne (Particular Redemption)

Verse 1

Here’s a controversial subject that tends to divide
For years it’s had Christians lining up on both sides
By God’s grace, I’ll address this without pride
The question concerns those for whom Christ died
Was He trying to save everybody worldwide?
Was He trying to make the entire world His Bride?
Does man’s unbelief keep the Savior’s hands tied?
Biblically, each of these must be denied
It’s true, Jesus gave up His life for His Bride
But His Bride is the elect, to whom His death is applied
If on judgment day, you see that you can’t hide
And because of your sin, God’s wrath on you abides
And hell is the place you eternally reside
That means your wrath from God hasn’t been satisfied
But we believe His mission was accomplished when He died
But how the cross relates to those in hell?
Well, they be saying:

Lord knows He tried (8x)

Verse 2

Father, Son and Spirit: three and yet one
Working as a unit to get things done
Our salvation began in eternity past
God certainly has to bring all His purpose to pass
A triune, eternal bond no one could ever sever
When it comes to the church, peep how they work together
The Father foreknew first, the Son came to earth
To die- the Holy Spirit gives the new birth
The Father elects them, the Son pays their debt and protects them
The Spirit is the One who resurrects them
The Father chooses them, the Son gets bruised for them
The Spirit renews them and produces fruit in them
Everybody’s not elect, the Father decides
And it’s only the elect in whom the Spirit resides
The Father and the Spirit- completely unified
But when it comes to Christ and those in hell?
Well, they be saying:

Lord knows He tried (8x)

Verse 3

My third and final verse- here’s the situation
Just a couple more things for your consideration
If saving everybody was why Christ came in history
With so many in hell, we’d have to say He failed miserably
So many think He only came to make it possible
Let’s follow this solution to a conclusion that’s logical
What about those who were already in the grave?
The Old Testament wicked- condemned as depraved
Did He die for them? C’mon, behave
But worst of all, you’re saying the cross by itself doesn’t save
That we must do something to give the cross its power
That means, at the end of the day, the glory’s ours
That man-centered thinking is not recommended
The cross will save all for whom it was intended
Because for the elect, God’s wrath was satisfied
But still, when it comes to those in hell
Well, they be saying:

Lord knows He tried (8x)

Open Air Preaching in San Diego at Balboa Park (Proverbs 3:1-8)

Here is a small clip of some open air preaching at Balboa Park in San Diego, CA. I preached from Proverbs 3:1-8, but since the video was so long, I edited it into smaller portions. Preaching from God's word (exegetically and expository), which according to Dabney is true preaching, is a beautiful way to get Christians involved. While you cannot see the people who are standing around, several Christians stood around to hear God's word. Afterward, I had several conversations with Christians and non-Christians. It was a blessing. At the end of each conversation I invite people to church/encouraged them to remain in church, invite them over for dinner, and encourage their baptism if the Lord has done a work in their life; that is the Great Commission! Be encouraged!

The audience was in shock then and many audiences continue to be shocked by it today.
