Q: CrossTalk focuses on the intersection between Scripture and real life. Why did you write it?

A: I wrote this book because I need it! As a biblical counselor who also trains other counselors, my daily challenge is to bring the good news of God’s redemption to my counselees’ lives—and to help others do the same. We need to keep asking how the Bible addresses the complexities of our personal lives (or another’s life), but there aren’t many places to turn for help. I need a resource to help me bridge the gap between then (when Scripture was written) and now (when I or others are struggling with life issues).

Q: So once we’ve become familiar with God’s Story and the individual’s story, what is the end goal?

A: The goal of reading Scripture and reading people together is to help others increasingly reflect the character and kingdom priorities of Jesus Christ. The goal of connecting Scripture with life is nothing less than changed lives, a changed community, and a changed world.

Engage the Culture

The Mayan calendar expires on December 21, 2012. Most religions and many religious cults around the world predict an end of the world scenario. Islam, Mormonism, Judaism even Christianity predict an apocalypse. The Bible contains mysterious prophecies about the end of the world, but the most amazing prophecy is found in the Book of Revelation, which means the Book of the Apocalypse. Scholars have discovered an incredible link to the number 2012 and what will happen to YOU when the world ends. If we look at chapter 20, verse 12 (20:12) of the Book of the Apocalypse, here is what we read: "And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God, and the books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works." In this amazing prophecy, that holy, Creator God will judge us on the basis of books of what we have done! What is written in those books about your life? Every lie is recorded there. Every thing you have stolen. Every time you looked at someone with sexual desire. Every time you have lived for your selfish ambitions rather than God. How thick is your book going to be? Can you see that you are guilty? Revelation 20:15 says, "Whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." How can you be found written in this book of life? You cannot do it yourself. Jesus Christ, eternal God in the flesh, who was tempted every way we are tempted and never sinned, died on the cross as a sin offering on the behalf of sinners. God poured out His wrath on His Son in our place (2 Cor. 5:21). He rose from the dead (1 Cor. 15:3-5). His perfect righteousness can be credited to you so you can be found not guilty on the day of judgment. Your responsibility? Repent (turn from all known sin) and believe (abandon yourself to Christ's perfect work). Read Acts 3:19 and Romans 5:1-11. Don't just agree with the facts of the gospel; abandon yourself to it. You may not live to see the year 2012. Please get right with God before it is too late. www.YouGotOurTract.com
